A popular theme of narative videos is love and romance and so, I had this as the storyline in my production.
An example of a love-based narrative video is 'Thinking of You - Katy Perry'. My video is based on the theme of young love and the feelings and events leading up to a first date. This idea is simple and achieveable. The storyline behind Katy Perry's video is alot more extravagant, set in the 1940's on a rural farm with references top men at war running through it.
However there are similarities, for example, the use of flashbacks is key to story development throughout both productions. It is a simple yet effective way to show passing of time and to give the audience greater understanding of the story.
The main difference between the two, apart from the less ambitious plot in mine and less glamourous scenery, is the characterization. In the Katy Perry video, the characters are not explored ikn a great deal of depth, they are not crucial to plot development, wheras in my video, the personalities are key. They are stereotypical teenage images, they are used to create humor and to move the narrative along in such a way that is essencial.

A video which is drastically different from mine, less conventional and mainstream is 'In My Place - Coldplay', it is a performance video. My video is completely narrative based, which challenges conventions, as performance is very often used in all types of music videos, either to break up the story or add to the overall tone.
I think that adding performance top my video would have made it overall more sucessful and more realistic as it would follow conventions. However due to issues with my some of my actor's reliability, this was not possible.
You show more than a basic understanding of the forms and conventions of music videos here, and in class-based discussions of your work I have merited your understanding as proficienct. I would like to have seen some examples (screen grabs perhaps) to illustrate your points further. Low level 3 awarded.
